Filing Your Work Comp Case in More Than One State at the Same Time

It's called concurrent jurisdiction, and yes, you might be able to file your workers' compensation case in Missouri and Illinois simultaneously. Hear attorney David Jerome explain how this works.

There exists a unique situation where if the injury occurs in Missouri, but the employer is in Illinois or vice versa, you can have a situation of concurrent jurisdiction. What that means is both Missouri and Illinois would have jurisdiction over your case. The best of this is you can choose which state will give you the best benefits. If you have a case involving current jurisdiction, we traditionally recommend that you seek legal counsel because obviously the insurance company will try to choose the jurisdiction that will give you the lesser of rights between the two states.
